Murcia to Torrevieja: Airport Travel Guide

That final journey from the airport to your holiday destination is always one of the more stressful parts of a trip. Fortunately, getting from Murcia to Torrevieja is a breeze, with plenty of different transport options for visitors of all varieties.

Murcia to Torrevieja car hire
If you love hitting the open road under your own steam, car hire is a great option in this part of the world. Perfect for exploring the Torrevieja area with children, a faithful pet or on your own adventure, not much can beat the freedom of having four wheels.
By car, the journey from Murcia-San Javier airport to Torrevieja takes a little under half an hour in clear traffic. The route will take you North up the coast along the AP-7, past San Javier, Pueblo Latino, Playa Flamenca and Punta Primo, before reaching the centre of Torrevieja.
You’ll find a wide range of well-known car hire providers at Murcia-San Javier airport, including Firefly and Europcar within the terminal itself. You may find that it’s a little cheaper to book in advance, and cheaper still if you opt for a car hire company a little outside of the airport. Enterprise, Avis, Centauro and their like are easy to find within the airport complex. Slightly further afield still you’ll find alternatives such as Flamenca Cars and OK Rent-A-Car.
Murcia to Torrevieja by taxi
Want to avoid the stress of driving abroad? No problem. Torrevieja is a quick 30 minute taxi ride from Murcia-San Javier. Booking local firms in advance can sometimes be cheaper than hopping in a taxi at Arrivals. Expat forums rate Torretaxis highly. Radio Taxi Torrevieja charge €40 by day and €50 at night, while Taxi Torrevieja quote €40 per trip.
Buses to Torrevieja from Murcia-San Javier airport
As Murcia-San Javier is a small airport (largely serving British visitors over the summer months), public transport connections are somewhat limited. A bus runs from the airport to Santiago de la Ribera bus station at 13:25, 16:15 and 18:25. From here, more intrepid visitors can take the 35 minute Costa Azul bus to Pilar de la Horadada, before changing onto the number 70 bus to Torrevieja. Be aware, however, that there is often quite a long wait between these bus services and the full journey from the airport could take upwards of three hours.
