Anyway… Our sunny little Costa Blanca town of Torrevieja is a paradise for dog lovers, and – by extension – their pooches. There’s a dog-friendly beach at Playa Flamenca, and the walks around the pink lake of Torrevieja are great for dogs, too.
You’ll also find plenty of specialist services available for dogs and their owners in Torrevieja. Whether you’re looking for someone to walk your dog while you enjoy a Torrevieja fishing trip, a dog-sitter to look after your pet while you explore the wider area by car, or a groomer to make sure your doggo looks (and smells) like the leader of the pack, these local services will do just the trick.
Dog sitters in Torrevieja
There are tons of websites that find dog sitters anywhere in the world, including Torrevieja. These are our top picks for finding a dog sitter in Torrevieja…
TrustedHousesitters is a big, global company with lots of trust built over time, with many trusted (and highly reviewed) dog sitters. Local Brits are easy to find on the platform, so if you’re not too confident in your Spanish language abilities, it’s a good bet – but you’re bound to find a good pairing for you and your dog, no matter what!
Like TrustedHousesitters, Yoopies connects dog owners with pet sitters and dog walkers – kind of like Airbnb for dog sitters! Local pet carers can be hired for as little as €7.50 per day, and the rating system lets you identify trustworthy sitters with confidence.
Dog walkers in Torrevieja
There are a good handful of dog walking services in Torrevieja now, especially since the boom in pet ownership over the lockdown periods. These are just a couple places to find local dog walking services…
Formerly DogBuddy, Rover.com will help you find a dog walker in Torrevieja – and dog sitters, too. They even have an option to search for locals offering doggy day care services, for trips or one-off care.
I Care For Pets
This local service, just a few minutes from the centre of Torrevieja, offers dog walks, boarding, doggy day care and more. Definitely one to consider. Check out the videos on their Facebook page, and enquire from there, too!
Dog groomers in Torrevieja
Whether you need an emergency clean before your flight home, or need to trim that coat for the Spanish heat, these dog groomers in Torrevieja can help…
Peluqueria Canina Marta
You’ll find this sweet little dog grooming business on Calle Licenciado Vidriera, in the heart of Torrevieja (get directions here). They’re open Tuesdays to Fridays from 9am to 6pm, and Saturdays from 9am to 3pm. They’re closed on Sundays and Mondays. Check their work out on Instagram.
This small, independent dog groomer offers affordable services for all dog breeds – and is just a stone’s throw from the pink lake of Torrevieja. Why not take your pup for a tangle-inducing walk around this local beauty spot, then have them beautified on the way home? Get in touch with K9Kutz on their Facebook page.
A note about hot weather and dogs…
As a responsible dog owner, you’ll know that hot weather and dogs don’t mix. Your furry companion has no sweat glands, and can only regulate their temperature in hot weather by panting.
Torrevieja is hot – basically all the time. Caring for your dog in a different climate to the one they are used to is tricky, but it can be done. Carry extra water for them to drink, and stop in shady spots frequently.
If the pavement (or sand on the beach) is too hot for you to walk on barefoot, then it’s too hot for your dog. People don’t always realise this, because we always have shoes or flip flops on – but it can really hurt your poor dog if the ground is blazing hot.
If your dog is overheating in a long coat, it might be best to visit a local dog groomer in Torrevieja to help them cool off with a little less fur. And a trip to the dog-friendly beach at Playa Flamenca will be a welcome break from the pounding sun, too – just remember to check the sand isn’t too hot for them to walk over first.
Don’t be tempted to let your dog loose on any old beach though, because there are strict rules and heavy fines for dogs on beaches that don’t allow them.
If you’re stuck for help, then a dog sitter or doggy day care is a great option that allows you to enjoy the sun, and catch up with your pup in the evening. And it’s best to step out in the evening with your dog anyway, or when the sun’s heat has worn off a little. We’d recommend an evening stroll with your pup along the town’s Dique de Levante as a lovely way to round off your day together.
