Fancy a Pint? Beers & Breweries in and around Torrevieja
5th September 2023
A long sip from a cold, frosty pint of beer on a hot day – few pleasures in life are quite as good.
Good old-fashioned beer has been around since the stone age, and humans have been enjoying it for thousands of years ever since. There’s a lot of debate around who invented beer; was it the ancient people of China? The ancient Sumerians? Or the ancient Egyptians?
No one knows for sure. But the consensus is that beer was independently invented by several ancient civilisations across the Asian continent, who’d gained the power of cereal farming. Beer moved around the world from there, and the rest is history.
It’s funny… Around here, beer is always assumed to be European in origin, given the huge part that sudsy cold ones have played in European (and American) culture.
Today, beer is a global phenomenon. And while you can track down a beer pretty much anywhere in the world now, there’s no guarantee it’ll be any good – unless you’re in Germany, which practically has laws against bad beer.
But what about in Torrevieja? Our little beach town isn’t exactly known worldwide as a beer capital, but beer-lovers will be glad to know that the rich traditions of beer-making have been a part of Spanish history for over 5,000 years.
That spirit is alive and well today – and Torrevieja has one of the most vibrant yet laid-back bar scenes in the country. Bars in Torrevieja stock beers from all over the world are available, including the staples from back home. So, where can you go for a “proper” pint in Torrevieja?
Best bars in & around Torrevieja for beer lovers
1. AMBER BREWERY
The AMBER BREWERY is Torrevieja’s first (and so far only) dedicated craft beer brewery, that also describes itself as a “loft design restaurant and bar.”
Added bonus? It’s a short walk from our holiday apartments! Just take a right when you leave, walk for a few minutes, and you’ll see it on the right, just at the end of Playa de Los Locos (a.k.a. Los Locos Beach). If you’ve gone past the beach, you’ve likely gone too far.
2. The Alchemist Pub
With hundreds of raving reviews, The Alchemist is the top-rated place for beers in Torrevieja. It’s friendly, plays good music, and caters to a huge range of beer enthusiasts. There’s a selection of draught, bottled and canned beers. You can also get craft beers, stouts and ales – basically, think of a beer, and you’ll find it here. Be sure to try the honey beer from Alicante (if it’s available when you visit). That’s a good one!
It’s an extremely welcoming place, and it’s not uncommon to find visitors from all over the world mingling inside. Definitely a top pub experience, no matter where in the world you’re from.
3. Irish Abbey
Fancy a Guinness? Then this small, intimate yet friendly Irish-style pub is where to get it. Irish Abbey is a family-friendly place, with homely vibes. Well-liked by locals and visitors, Irish Abbey serves as a community of sorts, for Irish, English, Welsh, Scottish, Scandinavian, and Icelandic expatriates – but all are welcome.
There’s also a Golf Society that uses the pub as its HQ – so if you’re a keen golfer and want to find the best golf course in Torrevieja, then these are your people. Rumour has it that the best pint of Guinness in Spain might well be poured right here, too.
4. Triple Brew
Take a 20-minute cab ride into Rojales (here’s a driving directions link from Torrevieja), and you’ll find Triple Brew: a craft beer paradise. This is absolutely a must-visit for anyone who loves craft beers, IPAs, pale ales and experimental beers.
There are so many flavours on offer – from a tropical, malty IPA, to a pumpkin spice ale – to a wonderfully weird (and super strong) “breakfast stout”, with overtones of Nutella. These are all local beers (the pumpkin ale is made on-site), but the bar offers a massive menu of international beers and wines.

Is there a craft beer scene in Torrevieja?
Torrevieja is quite a small town. But we really do believe there’s something for everyone here. Bars in Torrevieja are varied, serving cocktails, weird and wonderful concoctions, plus an assortment of international staples.
Craft beer isn’t huge here yet (other than the aforementioned AMBER BREWERY; see #1 above), but the culture is growing outside the town in places like Rojales and Alicante.
