Added in 2022: we have added a map showing the locations of all 6 markets in and near Torrevieja – see below!
Do you love a bargain? Are you looking for the perfect holiday momento? Perhaps you enjoy the challenge of bartering across a language barrier or simply can’t get enough of the buzz and bustle of local marketplaces. The Costa Blanca region in Spain is home to some fantastic markets, from foodie fantasies to Bohemian delights, Torrevieja is a great spot from which to enjoy some brilliant Spanish markets, specialising in all sorts of fare.
Here are a few of the “must visit” markets in the local area…
Markets in/near Torrevieja
1. Torrevieja Main Market (Fridays 8am-1pm)
This is one of Spain’s biggest local markets – and it’s easily the largest held in the Costa Blanca. This bustling market includes space for up to a thousand stalls boasting everything from fruit and vegetables, to meat, fashion, electrical items, ornaments and much more besides.
With plenty of food and drink vendors to keep you fed and hydrated, this huge market is a real occasion and a great taste of life in this corner of Spain. Located behind Torrevieja Aquapark around La Avenida de Delfina Viudes, this vibrant event is easy to find, too!
2. Torrevieja Craft Market (Most days 8pm-12pm)
For a slightly slower pace and an array of crafts and trinkets, pop down to the promenade by the port (Paseo de la Libertad) in Torrevieja. Most evenings (especially during the high season) you’ll find a smaller craft market with around 70 stalls. Also known as the night market and the “hippy” market, there are plenty of colourful wares to be found here, perfect for mementos and gifts.
3. Plaza Isabel II (Monday-Saturday, mornings & evenings)
Want to cook up some fantastic local produce during your stay in Torrevieja? The indoor market on Plaza Isabel II is a great place to buy loose vegetables and fresh ingredients – some of the freshest, tastiest seafood in Torrevieja can be bought right here. Take your shopping basket and cook up a storm! The market is open in the morning from 8am-2pm and the evening from 6pm-9pm.
4. San Miguel de Salinas (Wednesday mornings)
Fancy venturing outside of Torrevieja for a spot of shopping and culture? A Wednesday morning trip to San Miguel de Salinas’ weekly market is a fun activity. The market may be much smaller than Torrevieja’s weekly event, but its setting in this very pretty hilltop town, along with its busy stalls selling food, flowers and clothing, make this a very charming market. Held right at the top of the town, the market affords visitors views over the surrounding countryside, including its orange groves and salt lake.
5. Lemon Tree Market (Sunday mornings)
Fancy a flea market? Uncover bargains and dive into the antiques, old items and dusty old trinkets at the Lemon Tree Market held every Sunday on farmland near Guardamar’s El Raso development. It’s not your typical Spanish market town experience, but if you’re looking for something different, you’ll certainly find it here!
6. La Mata Market (Wednesday mornings)
Just outside Torrevieja, the town of La Mata also hosts a market. Held at the Canal del Acequión, this 250-strong stall market is a great place to find a bargain on anything from fruit and vegetables to clothes and leather goods.
