It’s not easy being vegan in Spain. This nation of knowledgeable foodies is incredibly passionate about their meats, cheeses & seafood. From the bacon in your patatas bravas to the squid in your paella and the cheese and charcuterie boards at almost every bar, it’s not always easy to find traditional Spanish cuisine which is free of meat, dairy and eggs.
In Torrevieja however, vegan visitors do have options. With many non-Spaniards visiting and settling in this sunny corner of the Costa Blanca, Torrevieja is gradually developing a more rounded and global approach to dietary requirements. You won’t find vegan options in every restaurant, but there are a few places to eat which are relatively vegan-friendly.

1. Beet Vegetariano
This veggie haven on Calle Pedro Lorca has recently undergone a stylish new refurbishment which makes the eatery even more alluring. Vegetarians will enjoy a wide range of meat-free dishes here, including Indian and Italian-inspired dishes. Vegans are also catered to with dishes on the menu, but may be disappointed to see that most meals include cheese. Staff are happy to arrange dairy-free versions, but be sure to ask clearly and check your meal when it arrives to be extra sure. The vegan pizza is said to be very good!
2. Restaurante Christopher
Located on the seafront, with a lovely open-air terrace, Restaurante Christopher doesn’t have an extensive vegan or vegetarian menu, but options are available. Dishes like vegetarian lasagne are available for the non-carnivores, while Moroccan vegetarian tagine served with mandarin couscous or lemon infused basmati rice will suit vegan customers. The restaurant is happy to cater specifically to veggie and vegan diets too, according to their website.
3. Muelle Restaurante
If you’re in the mood for something Italian, Muelle on the Calle del Mar may be able to help you out. Although the website does not list vegan options, their dedicated vegetarian menu hints at a more vegan-friendly outlook. 4. Herbolario Esencias de la Tierra
Located on the Calle Maria Parodi, Herbolario Esencias de la Tierra is a small health food shop where you will find ingredients ideal for vegans including tofu, soya milk and vegetarian meals options. If you’re staying in self-catered Torrevieja accommodation, this spot could prove a real life-saver. Prices may prove a little steeper than you’re used to at home however.
5. Torrevieja Market
Held every Friday on Calle Salinero, just off the Avda. De Las Cortes Valencianas, this huge weekly market sells pretty much everything, from shoes to curtains. There’s a wealth of fruit and vegetables to be found here, perfect for picking up vegan ingredients if you’re staying in self-catered accommodation.
