LOS LOCOS - HOLIDAY EXCURSIONS: DAY TRIPS TO GUADALEST VALLEY, BENIDORM AND ALMANSA
It’s part 2 of our day trip series. Find out where to visit for culture, relaxation and jaw dropping views. All places mentioned are within 2 hours drive of Torrevieja.
Trek up Guadalest Valley
Work off that Sangria belly with a trek up to the top of Guadalest Valley or the ‘Eagles Nest’ as it is also known. Located just over one and a half hour’s drive from Torrevieja, Guadalest is a village situated atop of a small mountain and has a modest population of just 200 but still manages to be one of the most popular Costa Blanca attractions.
Pick cherries from the trees, marvel at the view from the top or simply kick back and sample tapas in the sun with a glass of vino tinto, bliss.
While in Guadalest: Get Back to Nature at Rancho La Ofra
If you’ve ever fantasised about riding through the Wild West on horseback, Ranch La Ofra is the place where you can live out those daydreams. Offering horseback riding, vaulting and show jumping lessons, ride around the unspoilt mountains of Costa Blanca taking in the magnificent scenery as your noble steed leads you through pine forests, over bridges and large fields.
Relax and Rest on Poniente Beach
You’d be forgiven for thinking that Benidorm is all stag parties and karaoke bars. It’s true that in recent years this famous coastal city has attracted large volumes of British tourists seeking a week of binge drinking on the beach, but there’s more to Benidorm than meets the eye.
Introducing Poniente Beach, arguably the best beach in Benidorm. Avoid the tourists and get a taste of local life on this quiet family beach. The water is clear and rock free, the sands are clean and golden. Situated in the old town, Poniente is ideal for families and those looking for an authentic Spanish experience will not be disappointed.
Driving is the fastest way to get to Benidorm; the journey from Torrevieja will take around 70 minutes.
Visit a Town Steeped in History: Almansa
There are some towns which wear the roots of their history on their sleeves and Almansa is one of them. From the iconic clock tower to the medieval ‘Castle of Almansa’, even a light stroll around the town will transport you back to the 18th century. Take in the quaint charm of this beautiful place before visiting the astonishing cave village of Alcala del Jucar.
Driving to Almansa from Torrevieja will only take you around 90 minutes.
